My great grandmother was born in 1881. She lived to be 103 years old. When she died she had an entire house full of stuff. I was young when she died but I do have a few things of hers that I now have in my home. One of the items I have is a quilt that actually belonged to my great grandmother's grandmother. We estimate it to be from the late 1700s. I have it displayed on a quilt rack in my living room. It is great condition and really adds to the room. I also have some old glassware displayed as well. I know some people who have small children place these things away when they are small. I simply taught my children the word no and they know they aren't to touch certain things. I like the fact that I have some history in my home that belonged to someone in my family.

My aunt in law has a quilt rack in her bedroom and the quilt that is on it is over 100 years old. I have really admired it and she asked me if I wanted it when she passed and I just could not see myself taking it knowing that my husband's sister really wants it too!!

I would say it would be up to the Aunt on who gets the quilt. I don't really have anything from any of my relatives. My husband received 2 sets of silver that belonged to his parents grandparents. I would love to see both quilts. The older stuff is so beautiful.

What a wonderful heirloom to have. My father's parents had a lot of items that I would like to have now because they both died when I was very young. But my uncle's wife pretty much looted Grandma and Grandpa's house. I have a tiny China set that is at my parents' house. Mom and Dad will ship it to me whenever I want it.
