Light colors, like light yellows, or light blues or other light pastels may possibly give your child a calming effect and bright colors like deep purples, orange green and red may cause your child to have uncontollable outburst. Comment #1 Cornelia from Furniture World - I agree...the pastel colors are quite soothing to the eye whereas the primary colors can be a bit of an "eye opener". My 12 year old son wants us to paint one of his walls black!! That was a big NO from me...they sure do change when they get older don't they? Comment #2 Lee from North Pole - I like color but not too much color. We have pretty much cream colored walls in all our rooms. It just made it easier to decorate. I can remember when we started to look for houses several years back we looked at one that had a pink living room a purple bathroom and a very bright yellow kitchen. I was like ok right when I move in I am going to have to paint every single room in this house. It was the worst thing I had ever seen. I do agree that color has an affect on children too. In the school I used to teach in after we came back from summer break one year the principal had the top floor painted light pink. It looked like like a huge pepto bismal campaign but the theory behind it was for it to be calming for the kids. Comment #3 Snowbird (1) from the land of cheese - I agree, the darker the colors can be it can also kind of make the room feel A LOT smaller too. Nothing's wrong with dark colors but maybe keep it as a trim and then choose light colors for the rest. When i moved out of my parents house years ago, i painted my brand new apartment [which was in the basement of a house] deep green and purple. It looked like beautiful colors but... BAD IDEA, it made the rooms feel even smaller AND since i was not getting much light in from outside due to it being a basement, it felt really depressing. Comment #4 MissCrissy from Lounging on the sofa - This is such an interesting conversation. Here's something I found:
