How do you decide if kitchen islands are the right way to go in your home? The first thing to look at when considering this is the advantages you gain by having an island, and then compare those advantages against the potential negatives

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you have space for an island in your kitchen it will be one of the best investments you make.

My mother has an island in her kitchen and it works great for her. Her table is in a little adjoining space next to the kitchen so it isn't right there in the way with the island. I can't have an island in my kitchen because there is no separation of the room. The kitchen table sits in the middle of the room so there is no space. I think islands work best in kitchens if the table is off to the side and out of the way. I would love to have a kitchen like this so that there is something breaking up the room.

Our last two kitchens had islands and I loved them. This kitchen just isn't big enough but I don't miss it. I love this kitchen.
