I recently tackled this project of sponge painting our guest bathroom. I used a deep orange color and then sponge painted a peanut butter color on top of it. It actually turned out really well and have gotten several compliments on it. This was the first time I had ever tried it and now my mother in law wants me to come over to her home and sponge paint her foyer area walls!! Comment #1 Star from NY - My neighbor did this in her bathroom and it turned out really cute. She went with a palm tree theme and I think she painted the walls white and then sponged it with a few different colored greens. It definitely makes the room pop. It is a bathroom so it is not the biggest room in the house so it wasn't so bad to do. I am not sure I would want to tackle a large room doing this technique. It has to take some time I would think. Comment #2 Robin from Funkytown - I have tried sponge painting in the past and will not ever do it again. I found it very time consuming and it seemed like the paint just ran together. I actually painted over it and kept it a solid color. Comment #3 Eva from Wisteria Lane - Robin - sorry that it did not turn out for you. This was quite a daunting project for me and was thrilled that it turned out. I guess I had beginner's luck!! Comment #4 Silly Sally from the middle of nowhere - In our first house the original owners had sponged the water closet. I don't know what colors they used, but it was a REALLY dark pink. It was so dark in that WC that it was claustrophobic. We painted over it with a light strawberry ice cream pink and it was much more soothing.
