Living room table top replacement idea

I have a living room sofa table that has 4 square sections on the top. 2 are wooden and 2 are smoked colored glass. One day when I was in a rush cleaning I broke one of the glass tops! Just to replace 1 of the glass sections (beveled) it would have costed me more than $50!!

I went to the craft store and bought a large piece of poster board (1/4 in thick) and bought kitchen cabinet liner (self adhesive). They have a variety of colors so I pick a color that looked like green marble.

I traced the good piece of glass around the poster board and and cut it out and stuck the liner on top. It fits perfectly in the spaces where the glass use to be and I get compliments all the time!

That's a great inexpensive way to replace that glass. I had a problem like that several years ago where my glass top coffee table cracked when I dropped something on it and it was more expensive to replace the glass than what I had even paid for the table!! We ended up buying a new coffee table but this time it was made of wood. Ha!

We used to have a coffee table that had a glass top. The wood underneath it was cut into sections that could have probably been used for individual sections of glass but we just kept the one big piece of glass. Right before our first child was born we actually had given it back to them. They were asking us if we still had it and stuff. They never came right out and asked for it back but they really liked the table. We figured the timing was right to give it back. We bought a wooden coffee table with rounded corners and has worked out great. I don't know what I would have done besides replace the entire piece of glass if it would have broken. That is a very clever idea to replace that section of table and very inexpensive.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I love to read the clever solutions people come up with instead of spending a lot of money they'd rather not spend. Good for you.

Oh wow! That's why I love these forums. I don't know that I ever would have thought of that. Did you just use shelf paper or was it something else? What a brilliant idea.
