I am looking for some elegant looking wood bookcases, but I don't want to spend a fortune. What would you recommend?

I would go into any clearance center that is around the area you live in. They usually have a lot of lower priced items that look very good just because they may be last years modle or discontinued items.

If you like yard sales and consignment shops and you don't mind used furniture you can often get some great deals this way. This past summer I found two really beautiful bookcases at yardsales.

Yes. Oak Veneer is very nice color in book cases.
